DO NOT CALL THEM BACK: It's a scam operation calling from the #s below. Each week there's a new number too. block these numbers from your landlines and cellphone and keep adding the new #s to your block list. http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/stand-fake-debt-collectors.
Any calls from these numbers are FAKE PAYDAY LOAN COLLECTION CALLS, who threaten jail time if you don't pay them a certain amount to prevent you from facing "charges". FAKE FAKE SCAM SCAM. DO NOT verify anything. The FTC is aware and asks that you file a complaint online: http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/stand-fake-debt-collectors.
They call from different numbers so please be sure to report the # each time you receive a call.
Got the same call from Richard Kizer. I used to get a similar email from some guy from New York. People have more to deal with than this kind of stuff. We just have to pray for scammers too.
I received a voicemail today saying I have been named in a federal case and that myself and/or my attorney need to contact them asap. Ended with "govern yourself accordingly".
After reading your comments, I called them back out of curiosity. The lady that answered the phone, did not even ask my name when I called, but said that I have had federal charges filed against me for a loan that I took out and never repaid and that the company that granted the loan is prosecuting me.
She tried to ask me if I ever lived at a certain address (which I have, again I did not give my name when I called) but I said no and that I would not be answering any questions without receiving written correspondence via US mail or a process server. She continued to try to get me to verify other personal information and again I affirmed that I would not answer without written correspondence. I told her I googled their number and that everyone says they're a scam.
The lady then said "Fine! I will put you down as refusing to pay and forward your case to the prosecutor" and then hung up on me.
This is not the first time this has happened. Years ago I filled out an online form for a payday advance loan and had someone calling me within the next two weeks telling me I never paid it back and that the Sheriff would be at my work the following day to arrest me. I proceeded to call him back and harass him in return everyday for the next 2 weeks.
Needless to say, the sheriff never came and he quit calling.
Ha 18 min ago you posted that he called me 8 min ago i must have been next in line. i have no outstanding collections and get annual background checks in my job. dont you hate that we all work hard for a living and then there is them!
This person, who describes himself as a court intervenor, sounds very intimidating and threatening. I didn't answer my phone, I am so sick of scam calls, I just screen my calls and I am glad I did.
