The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
Ah, yes, Richard Kaiser left me a "govern yourself accordingly" message this morning. After reading through your post, I recognize around half of the companies / people you've listed. I've been receiving these scam calls for years, after filling out an application for an auto loan through lending tree (not a payday loan). There really is no recourse, these are illegal operations, and the numbers are not legit, any address or website provided won't be legit either. I either just ignore the calls, or if I get so many of them in a day that I'm fed up, I'll answer and mess with the people and continually call them back. Once it gets to that point, the calls will stop for about 3 weeks and then start back up, repeating the whole thing all over. The only way to stop it, I think is to change my number. However, they've even started calling my children's cell numbers, so they're always going to by my information from somewhere, I guess.
Why can't these people be stopped? I have placed written complaints, called various fraud departments, and talked to the police, and still nothing is happening. I don't know what else to do.
They keep leaving these voicemails every day saying that I need to contact their office by the end of the day or my attorney. They can dream on. If they can take any action they would have done so. Boiler room operation
Just got a call from Sarah about a payday loan from 2012 that was put in my Wells Fargo account..Now after 3 years u call a reference to get in contact with me...she could not tell me who much I borrowed the name of the company...CRAZY
