I stupidly answered a 800 call and it was a debt collector that had an Indian accent. He insisted he could get my debt way down. Then when I said I would get back,to him on it, he became mean and said I had to give him 100.00 for the so called deal! It was a learning experience, and I will not do it again. What is really sad, is how many poor, elderly, lonley, isolated people they do scare into writing post dated checks ECT. Its sick!
The scumbags at Portfolio Recovery, trying to collect on a debt that expired over a decade ago. I miss the days of my landline and Phone Tray Free-- I could just block them, no matter how many numbers they used.
Don't talk to these people. Anything you say, they will use against you. Certainly don't send them any money. As bad as you might feel having them call you constantly, you'll feel 1000 times worse than that if you knuckle under to their empty threats.
And here's the bad part: if you pay them, they'll just come up with something else, and start harassing you all over again, like all billcollectorscumbags do.
Think of it this way: as long as they're calling you, begging for your money, you're winning. Give in, and that gives the green light to all of the other bottom feeders out there: here's an easy mark.
This particular caller was a typical phone room loser: he sounded like he never blew his nose in his entire life. The people that work at such places are the sort of losers you cross the street to avoid: ex cons, drug addicts, and, oddly enough, people themselves who have bad credit. In short, anyone who can't qualify for a real job. These people are genuinely stupid, and not to be feared. You're smarter than they are.
Just remember this: when Portfolio Recovery comes a-calling, the alleged "debt" they have has long since expired. There is no way they can do anything to you, such as take you to court. All they can do is make empty threats. According to the credit agencies, the debt essentially no longer exists (personally, I'd like to see Equifax, Experian, and Transunion shut down, their records burned, and their employees banned from being hired by any other company for at least 5 years, but that's another subject)
The only reason fraudsters like Portfolio Recovery still exist is that there are enough stupid, fearful people out there who give in and pay them their blood money.
they call -- don't know anyone in their area -- blocked -- really simple .. eventually they will run out of numbers to call for or learn the pattern -- you call me i call block you. real simple. also my ringer is "silent" ringer so they never bother me anyway because they never leave a message.
Scam (and or) Fraud used by Mafia type, leach sucking supposed debit collection type company. Asking for all kinds of personal information they want. Dot trust this number or the calls, they will lie to you over and over when you start questioning them about why they are calling you of a supposed debt there harassing you about.
