I also got a call like that and I though it might be true, but them they started to ask all this question in relation to who I was, if I had a credit card, and if I had money to sell the grant. I told them I was not interested and the the thing was that they were saying that I couldn't tell anyone until the "application" was complete.
I received a call from this number 206-538-5498 with a message from the IRS saying that they have a lawsuit against me. I called back to find out what is was about. They said his name is Officer Chris Evans with badge ID #SS98195. My supposed case id is DC1928. He said is is lawsuit for tax fraud. He asked if I wanted to pay the back taxes of 4850.00 now or appear in federal court. I told him I was not going to pay anything over the phone with someone I don't know and that if it was true to send me the info to appear in court. Then I hung up. I went online to look up the number and found out others have been called from the same number and it was a scam.
Automated message on voicemail claiming they were the IRS and that I needed to call them back regarding a lawsuit against me. THE IRS WILL NEVER CALL YOU - DO NOT CALL BACK!
3/3/16. Got two calls, first at 6AM! Second call at 12:30PM! I had heard about this scam so didn't call back. Why can't the real IRS follow up on this as they know the phone number?
"Why can't the real IRS follow up on this as they know the phone number?" They do try but most often are stopped when it turns out the number displayed is not real or traces back to an internet phone service like Magic Jack with the call actually originating in a foreign country.
