My caller said he was from "WINDOWS Support" not Microsoft. There is a difference. Microsoft is trademarked, copyrighted etc. windows is not and can't be. Anyone can say they work for windows, Microsoft is a different story.
He got all huffy when I called hin a "pakistani scammer". In retrospect his English was so good he is probably Filippino.
I got a call from this number. The person on the other end had a heavy Indian accent and a fake North American name. He said he was from Microsoft Windows Technical Support and that they had discovered my computer had been compromised and they were getting error messages at the main server (or some such nonsense). I said that was not likely and he got very aggressive and wanted to know how I knew that and who told me that. I politely said "excuse me" and hung up.
Obviously a scam.
Indian accent caller .. asked for me by name to which I replied . told me my computer called him. It did? What tye computer do I have, I have 10 of them. Only 5 operating now. None have Windows or Microsoft products on them. So how can they call you. I also told him my phone line is recorded. He said recorded by whom, what will they do.. He hung up when he found he couldn't run his SCAM.
Microsoft is SECRETLY turning the Remote Assistance button on when you do the *NET updates on its update list in prep for Windows 10. Found 10 clients whose systems I monitor quarterly who have experienced this same phenomenon. That their Windows Remote assistance box was checked to on in both Windows XP systems and windows 7 and Win 7 pro.
Here is Video on how to stop this or DISABLE it in your system
