Unfortunately charities are allowed under the DNCR. Because of this I believe people have set up fake organizations in a effort to get around the DNCR so the can trick people into donating.
I'm not sure the location is relevant. I'm getting the same calls, and I don't live in the 413 area code. (I live in *Eastern* Massachusetts.) I'm wondering if they're trying to scam people in other states too.
This is yet another number in a rotation of FAKE SCAM "charities" that DO NOT EXIST and are really a MONEY MAKING SCHEME for a MEGA RICH family called the REYNOLDS FAMILY of Tennessee. They use the following legit SOUNDING (but totally BOGUS organization) names:
"Breast Cancer Society" 413-241-3302
"Breast Cancer Financial Assistance" (BC Fin Assist" on Caller ID) 857-444-8183, and
"Breast Cancer FA" 857-444-8107
"BCFA" on caller id 857-444-5636
They ALSO have a number of PHONY, SCAM "Veteran's" charities that they hawk for (COLLECTING THE $ for their OWN POCKETS):
"American Veterans Support Foundation" 240-920-0671
"Support US VETS" 540-765-2514
Suspect they are also behind 202-733-6943 with no name displayed.
They also LOVE to call with numbers/name COMPLETELY HIDDEN behind "Out-of-Area" and "Anonymous" calls.
Best thing to do is to NOT ANSWER, or, even better if you can, BLOCK as many of their numbers as you can.
Some HIGH RANKING POLITICIAN must be 'behind' these people; I'm sure they are paying off members of Congress, ROYALLY. Otherwise, they'd be IN JAIL by now, where these RICH SCUMBAGS belong.
We got a call from this number today, 23 Jan 2014, at 4:29 pm. The caller ID was "BREAST CANCER S". Since they had called us last year, the number was blocked by our call blocker.

They do know what the Do Not Call List is but they play the game disguised as the charities they contact for. Contact them at their BBB authorized number to request Do Not Call for all databases.
