Unfortunately charities are allowed under the DNCR. Because of this I believe people have set up fake organizations in a effort to get around the DNCR so the can trick people into donating.
I received calls asking for donations this number, which apparently belongs to the "Breast Cancer Society," recently identified as part of the Reynolds family conglomerate of fundraising scams in an investigative article on the worst charities in the U.S: http://www.tampabay.com/topics/specials/worst-charities3.page.
The BSC sends generally useless donated items such as toothpaste and paper plates to breast cancer patients as a cover for their multi-million dollar operation, keeping most of what they raise to pay executive salaries.
Got a call from this telephone number while I was not home. Caller ID gives the number and says Springfield, Massachusetts but does not say who is calling. No message left.
Caller ID says Springfield, MA. She asks for Woman of the House. Very aggressive woman is looking for donations for some Breast Cancer Charity that helps women who can't pay their bills. She wants minimum donation of $20.
