Caller called trying to say they were from the IRS. I told them exactly what I had owed, that I had paid it and had all the receipts to prove that. Asked why I had not received a notice that I under paid and were I made a mistake the person did not know How to respond. He gave me a reference number and started to threaten that I was to be in court. I told him that I would be contacting him tomorrow through the IRS number online and he hung up......Obviously if every one starts calling them out on this scam they will stop.
got message from IRS claiming there were 2 criminal cases-1 tax fraud against my spouse -and claimed to be Eric Jones. Could not understand him, broken English at best,claimed that he wasn't prior caller (voice was identical) and gave me his employee ID Number as "9002183". Wanted my fax number and my batch number (tho I don't have 1) These posts helped me see it was fraud as I was worried. Definitely a scam.
The person claimed to be "Kevin Richardson" with something called "Tax Litigation Department." He said that there was a problem with my taxes and that I needed to contact them in order to avoid legal action being taken against me. Obvious scam, reported to Federal Trade Commission and the FBI.
Got a call from this number from a person with a very heavy accent. Couldn't understand them very well. Claimed they were from the IRS and said that I have a case against me for tax fraud and if I didn't pay a fine, I would be be put in jail for 6 months. Scared me at first until I realized that the IRS would contact me first via letter with a case number if there was a problem. This is a SCAM as noted in other posts.
Received a message from this number claiming I have a tax problem and that this is time sensitive.
They gave me a reference # and said I would be arrested.
I know for a fact I DO NOT have a tax problem and if this was truly the IRS, I would receive
a hard copy notification.
