I got this exact same call today, mine was from Doris Johnson in Richmond VA. she said I had a payday loan from 2008-2011 while I was in the Navy. She knew my address, my bank was navy federal, and that I was in the navy. Really scary and I have never gotten a payday loan in my life. I'm glad to see that this is a scam.
Just got a call from this number. At first the person said that they were filing a *criminal* charges. I asked why they were calling if they were filing criminal charges and she backed off and said that they were going for civil action, but didn't say why. When I said that I didn't know what she was talking about, she hung up on me.
Same voicemail - As a side note, I had a friend who was a debt collector. She told me of the tactics she used to get people to pay on overdue accounts. She received 10% of any money she collected so she would skirt the legal implications, use a deep threatening voice and legal jargon to get people to give money. Knowing what goes on from an insider point of view, I never give these people the satisfaction of answering the phone or returning the call. If you return the call, then they know that they have the right number (or at least a valid number). Never answer or call back and they assume they have the wrong number and eventually leave you alone.
