Man claimed to have spoken with an executive who has been overseas for a couple of years now. When I said that he wasn't here, he acted surprised, reiterating that he'd talked to him just last week (an old ruse). He requested the new number, I refused, he started to give me a hard time but then hung up.
Called today and was UGLY with the boss' wife that answered the phone. Asked for her husband, when she started asking questions the guy was VERY rude, said 'Lady he called me just let me talk to him'. Owner/boss got on the phone and told him 'my phone calls are screened, you are a son of a *****, I didn't call you' (yelling) and then hung up. JERKS!
The best kind of revenge to employ on scammers like this is to answer that phone and be sweet as pie.
When they ask to speak to the business owner, very politely ask what the call is regarding...give them every indication you intend to put them through if only they will tell you who they are and what they want.
When they do, reply, "Certainly! One moment please." And slam that handset down on the cradle as hard and sloppily as you can. You want them to hear you mashing their ear as you disconnect.
The feeling of satisfaction you will get is immense.
The best part is, if they have the balls to call you back, you can simply claim there must be a problem with the system (since you were so polite initially, they'll believe you) and you can hang up on them again. Repeat as often as necessary. Happy day to you!
