I also received a call saying they were looking fro someone with my name and if I knew the person I soul call back. I have done this before and was treated rudely when I asked them to how me proof of debt in writing. They refused and told me I needed to send them money today or they would take me to court. I said would see them in court and hung up. They refused t give me any details and were threatening. I was at work, and they called on my cell.
Not real company.work with the local police to find out who keeps call me .if you get a call frim them call them call the police are FTC they have a file on them.
Said that they were working with PNC bank on collecting a debt and that they would be issuing a supena if I didnt give then 1600.00 right now I asked for there info and address in which to send the funds by check and they hung up and called back 10 more times
A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:
* Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]
Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via green dot, Western Union, or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.
