Sure they will. Why? Because every time you make any payment whatsoever or say or do anything to acknowledge the debt, the statute of limitations on suing for the debt gets restarted. Unless you have an intention of paying off the debt in the short run, do not make any payment and say nothing that could be interpreted as your agreement that the debt exists.
So, I just figured out, based upon your posting, that this company was calling on behalf of a store credit card that I'm actually in good standing with. In fact, my minimum payment was almost nil because I keep it paid down. However, the way the store cards are set up, whatever the minimum is, even if only a dollar, and you miss one payment, they will automatically turn it over. The crazy thing is, I was only late 4 days, as I made a payment that covered most but not all of the balance in the store at the end of June. But what was explained by the lady I just got off of the phone with is that it's company policy. It didn't used to be this way with creditors but I suspect because so many people have fallen on hard times, they're being proactive. I hope that they realize, though, that there's a line between proactive and aggressive and that line is often crossed.
To the people that have posted their frustration because you've fallen on hard times, please stay encouraged. I have health conditions and had lost my house too. I managed over the past five years to get out of debt and am slowly rebuilding my credit thanks to Crown Ministries. And also, I had a job for a month which among the many responsibilities was contacting people who were "behind". I literally cried every day until I was able to get another job and I said a prayer for each and every person that I had to bother whether someone cursed me out or not. It's a hard thing when you're taught that you're supposed to forgive debts/trespasses and then realize the world doesn't work that way. So to any debt collector on here, please remember to tread and treat lightly, conducting your business with respect and dignity whether or not the same is done for you. God forbid, but life isn't perfect and you could find yourself in need of sympathy/empathy. Everyone be blessed.

You know, they aren't going to have a clue until they have to work into their seventies. Hopefully, they will be able to have and affordable medical care (really kicks in as you age), Social Security which we have paid into all our working lives (forever!) helps but you'll need more.
I think my full retirement age is 68 and will only get my maximum benefit at 70.
They will be working a lot longer to get what they paid into and if turns out they have to keep working they will learn companies have a nasty habit of getting rid of older workers and hiring younger ones to save on salaries, etc.
For his edification, I have paid taxes and social security, etc. all my life. When I draw benefits, it will be from MY earnings not his.
SS is in trouble because the gov has taken it and not repaid the fund. That was a loop hole the government let slide.
Live and learn.
