FTP - No idea who they are or what they do....but they are not calling for any legit reason, its a cold call.
An EXTREMELY rude and whiny (it was almost comical) lady called today and asked for John. We have (withing the C-Level alone) 6 Johns. I asked which John she needed.
"Well, the owner of the company."
Red Flag #1 - She doesn't know who she is calling. I answer the phone for a holding company, so there are at least 8 different "owners".
I told her I answer the phone for several companies, and asked her which one was she referring to?
Red Flag #2 - She SLAUGHTERED the name of the company (it's phonetic, and not hard at all), which usually means she has no legit business.
Caller displayed "FPT" along with the number. The call came as I was having lunch & while I generally ignore calls like this, the number is within my state so I answered in case it was from a customer. When the caller asked if she could speak to the owner, I replied "nope" & hung up. I then googled it & it turned out to be "Future Payment Technologies", a credit-card processor. Funny thing is that after nearly 40 years of accepting plastic, I had more than enough of the greedy processors & banksters & had stopped accepting credit & debit cards as of December 31, 2013 & haven't lost any business since (I don't do e-commerce & never accepted cards over the phone). So now the 7-8% that I was giving away (which included swipe & batch fess, various monthly fees, annual "card association fess", PCI-DSS fees, etc.) remains in my business account. Fortunately, there's a MAC machine nearby for customers who don't carry cash & if anyone objects to paying a fee to use it, I offer them an equivalent or greater discount. If I was to start accepting plastic again, I'd go with "Square"; they have a high flat rate (2.75%) but no additional or hidden fees.

Called and asked for owner, told her we have no owner we are non for profit, she said it was a Courtesy call.. well be nice and don't call so we can get work done.
They call occasionally and ask to speak to the owner...My response is always the same... NO! and I hang up.
We had a call from India who said they were from Microsoft and that our computers had a virus. I acted excited that they called and said that they were correct that I had noticed a virus yesterday. I was glad that they called but I gave our computers some aspirins yesterday and TODAY they were FINE! Then I hung up. :)
