FTP - No idea who they are or what they do....but they are not calling for any legit reason, its a cold call.
An EXTREMELY rude and whiny (it was almost comical) lady called today and asked for John. We have (withing the C-Level alone) 6 Johns. I asked which John she needed.
"Well, the owner of the company."
Red Flag #1 - She doesn't know who she is calling. I answer the phone for a holding company, so there are at least 8 different "owners".
I told her I answer the phone for several companies, and asked her which one was she referring to?
Red Flag #2 - She SLAUGHTERED the name of the company (it's phonetic, and not hard at all), which usually means she has no legit business.
This number called and hung up upon my answering machine. I caller ID`ed , blocked my own caller ID and called back. I got a recording that the number was no longer in service. Very odd since they had just called me . I have run into this pattern before from other callers and locations. Most of my associates understand why I never pick up the phone unless I know who is on the other end. Creeps like these are exactly why. I already suspected telemarketers. Phone co. tells me that a local neighbor`s number can be "spoofed" to my caller ID as well -as an underhanded trick to lure me into picking up and getting a sales pitch.
called every day. Insisted that they need to come and give us new card processing equipment. Rude caller insisted that it will be "mandatory" by June 1. I sense it's a scam, so I call the number back and only receive a full voicemailbox...
The best part is that they said they'll be here on Tuesday morning April 29th. can't wait!
They called today. Caller id said FPT. She asked for Kevin. I asked Kevin whom? She hesitated and said Wiggins. I told her that there was no Kevin Wiggins here and hasn't been since the company opened over 30 years ago. She then said oh well I'm looking for the owner. I told her he isn't available, call back between 730/8 (they will get a voice mail then because we aren't answering phones then). Next time I see the number I'll just pull out my handy dandy whistle and blow it in their ear. Sometimes I say Let me check if he is in and just leave them on hold. I am so sick of these people and the ones that keep calling about updating Google pages or does your business need a loan, we have lots of money to loan you. Wastes my productive time.
Here’s my standard advice regarding unidentified callers...
Never, EVER, give out ANY information about yourself or your household over the phone!
Just don't answer calls from numbers you don't recognize. Your friends and relatives will leave messages accordingly. Ignore calls from those you don't know. And don’t waste your time on “do not call” lists and the like. These lists have a bazillion legal loopholes, and the callers are usually scofflaws anyway; they couldn’t care less whether or not they’re breaking the law.
Only when we take the profit out of these calls will they stop!
