FTP - No idea who they are or what they do....but they are not calling for any legit reason, its a cold call.
An EXTREMELY rude and whiny (it was almost comical) lady called today and asked for John. We have (withing the C-Level alone) 6 Johns. I asked which John she needed.
"Well, the owner of the company."
Red Flag #1 - She doesn't know who she is calling. I answer the phone for a holding company, so there are at least 8 different "owners".
I told her I answer the phone for several companies, and asked her which one was she referring to?
Red Flag #2 - She SLAUGHTERED the name of the company (it's phonetic, and not hard at all), which usually means she has no legit business.
This is FPT, a company that sells merchant account related products. When she told me that she was sending us information on credit card terminals, I told her we didn't use terminals (we use online only), she asked if we accepted checks. I told her we weren't interested and didn't use terminals. She stated, "I SAID, do you accept checks?" I hung up on her.
Got the call - did not answer. Pressed "block" on our office phone and they were instantly gone. Came here and found that they are indeed a scam.
Folks, you must purchase a call blocking phone or device - they work and they are inexpensive. We have both.
Our phones do not ring when a blocked call comes in and our office is not disturbed.
While typing this, a call from 813 708-5479 came in - another blocked scammer from Tampa, FL. Amazing!
Idiots from a credit card processing company. Why in the world would I change from a phone call?
Anyway after receiving this call and forgetting to block it, I answered "hello" since they are out of my local area... and once they asked for the "owner"... I said THIS IS A POLICE DEPARTMENT DISPATCH PHONE NUMBER... YOU MIGHT WANT TO REMOVE IT FROM YOUR LIST.... I haven't gotten a call... but then again these idiots call a month later, same thing... all over again...
Caller ID says "FPT". They call here constantly and have been told repeatedly not to call anymore. So, now, I just get lots of hang up calls from them. Annoying.
When I see a CID I don't know I either don't answer, or I answer with speaker w/o saying hello & the room quiet, the call will time out & usually terminate. I'll also answer & simply hit the '#' key several times, in most 'auto dialing' systems this action will terminate the call on their end & in some cases take your number off their list w/o them even knowing it. I also report them to the FTC & federal DNC So I'm just laughing ;-)
