FTP - No idea who they are or what they do....but they are not calling for any legit reason, its a cold call.
An EXTREMELY rude and whiny (it was almost comical) lady called today and asked for John. We have (withing the C-Level alone) 6 Johns. I asked which John she needed.
"Well, the owner of the company."
Red Flag #1 - She doesn't know who she is calling. I answer the phone for a holding company, so there are at least 8 different "owners".
I told her I answer the phone for several companies, and asked her which one was she referring to?
Red Flag #2 - She SLAUGHTERED the name of the company (it's phonetic, and not hard at all), which usually means she has no legit business.
I got the biotch. Future Payment Technologies. I played with her for a bit... She doesn't have any sense of humor. AND, I do like that Craigslist idea!!!
Here's a suggestion to all the posters. First, get Caller ID if you don't already have it. Second, when a call comes through from a number/area code that you don't recognize, just answer "law office" when you pick up the phone. It's worth a try. In my opinion the "Do Not Call" list is a joke, and it only (supposedly) works for residential phone numbers anyway. If these jerks are calling your business line, you're pretty much at their mercy unless you get creative.
Call our business and asked for the owner. I told her he was out of town for a few weeks. Then she asked if there was a co-owner, I told her no. She said thank you and hung up. Obvious call center background noise on call as well.
