Came across this site while researching a call from 901-531-7230. Interestingly, the number I was researching was listed to NAMI and the situation was similar.
Funny...I complained about this non-profit Oct 2007 and they're calling me again. So much for them taking me off their call list. At least I've found a website for the National Alliance for Mental Illness at www.nami.org. I couldn't find anything last year which is why myself and, possibly, poster Joe from Dec 2007 listed the info that we did. I just couldn't get anyone to answer at 458-2010 last year when I would call them back. Anyway, here is what just happened to me today:
NAMI called this morning at 8:35 AM. This call started off as an auto-message and then someone interruped it by picking up the line and began speaking. This is different from last year as I would answer and sometimes someone would answer and other times no one was on the line! I'm going to keep records of every call this time!
I searched for a NAMI website and found one this year. Why I didn't find it last year is beyond me. Anyway, I didn't see any mention of tangible items accepted for donation under "types of donations". I did assume that maybe because I was looking at the main website and not something local so I looked up the local rep for NAMI. A quick call to Carol Roy at the Memphis offc 877-40-7002 confirmed that they do have a thrift store in Memphis (on Park like we've known since last year's calls) that accepts donations and that they do call the community periodically for donations. She was very nice and I explained to her that I would prefer NOT to be called anymore. She gave me the 458-2010 number to have myself removed and she also took my name/# for follow up, I guess (hope). We'll see if the last agent I spoke with this morning removed my name like I requested!
I called the number back and an telemarkerter answered the phone and asked what state i was in. she than said it was for National Assosiation of the Mentally Ill and was requesting clothing donations
This is a legit organization, like Goodwill, that collects clothes and things for resale to help the blind and retarded. I have been donating to them for years. They always leave me a tax receipt.
