Debtors don't go to jail for debt but collectors who use illegal tactics to harass them certainly can and even sometimes do. The ignorance you demonstrate in this little lecture confirms your situation in life and work, and it's always so amusing to see when collectors have to come on the COMPLAINT board to lecture the "downtrodden" in the hopes of making their weekly quotas. I sent these people nearly half of what they sad I owed about a past debt and unpaid loan. Is this legitimate, did I do the right thing by trying to pay them A.S.A.P. I've already contacted my lawyer for futher assistance from a legal standing. I just need to know did I just lose $235.00 that I could have paid other bills with. I needed that money, and still do, but I was made to feel my freedom was immediately at state so I of coarse did what I could.
These calls are scams. They are trying to get your personal info and your money. Don't give them your social security number to "find your file". If this was a real collection agency they wouldn't hang up on you when you don't give them the info they want.
