Have been calling several times a day for over a month. They are trying to solicit payment history information for our customer to build their "payment history" database.
They make it seem like an urgent matter with a case number asking us to resolve this important matter for our customer. The number they leave to call back just rings with no answer. 866-658-3140
I called the 973-929-3290 number and told them what happened with the other number, that we do not give out that kind of information about our customers, and to please stop calling. They pretend not to know anything about it then transfer me back to the unanswered 866 number. I did get put through to someone's voice mail after calling the 973 number back after they put me through to the unanswered 866 number. I again asked them to stop calling, that we do not give out that information, and that we are seriously annoyed at the interruptions and wasted time and resources. They called again after that in the afternoon. Complaint filed with FTC and will never do business with D&B or its affiliates again.
Claimed to be Dunn and Bradstreet - What they are doing is calling to confirm it is a business and then they sell the information to other telemarketers to harass you. I just mark the number down so when they call again I give them the runaround.
I called the DNB Canada info line at 1.800.INFO.DNB (found at www.dnb.ca), and they confirmed that the number 973-929-3290 is one of their numbers, and that someone had called our business earlier to "verify our information". However because they requested financial details, I declined to give them this info. It sounds really sketchy, but is apparently legit. Their head offices are in NJ, hence the 973 area code. And yes, it's spelled "Dun." :)
Just got a call from these people stating that they were from a place called Dunn and Bradstreet, I didn't give them any information. So I get online to see who is calling me and I find this page with like 3-4 posts on here defending them. Seems like the people on here that are defending them are actually them trying to gain back credibility and trust from anyone trying to see who called. My advice is: don't give any information. Hang up, get on the Internet and look them up yourself. If you think giving all your personal business information and social security number to these people is the right thing to do then talk to your coworkers and you can all give them your business statistics together. Giving out your business information is the most unwise thing you can do when it is over the phone to some stranger. Hope this helps.
