Have been calling several times a day for over a month. They are trying to solicit payment history information for our customer to build their "payment history" database.
They make it seem like an urgent matter with a case number asking us to resolve this important matter for our customer. The number they leave to call back just rings with no answer. 866-658-3140
I called the 973-929-3290 number and told them what happened with the other number, that we do not give out that kind of information about our customers, and to please stop calling. They pretend not to know anything about it then transfer me back to the unanswered 866 number. I did get put through to someone's voice mail after calling the 973 number back after they put me through to the unanswered 866 number. I again asked them to stop calling, that we do not give out that information, and that we are seriously annoyed at the interruptions and wasted time and resources. They called again after that in the afternoon. Complaint filed with FTC and will never do business with D&B or its affiliates again.
You are refusing to provide information you have about our own company for free. Instead, you ask for some kind of subscription that would allow us to access that information.
Based on fact that we are very small company serving other small companies, without regular suppliers (also, no corporate credit cards) - I assume entire story about increased interest for information about us is just a joke. Nice excuse to contact us and sell your services.
Bottom line: you are making money by providing reports about us. Allow us to have access to our own record for free or stop calling us.
Stop calling companies that are not interested to your services. We don't need your services. If you need information about us - pay us for our time and effort. You are selling that information. You already called us few months ago and I was very clear about this.
First of all, D&B is useful for many businesses but D&B itself has some decidedly shady practices. We get these calls occasionally. It happens when your "account" with them is essentially dormant but someone happens to look up your business. That triggers an update call, which is reasonable enough if it doesn't happen too often. What I don't like is their pushy, contracted-out, boiler room call center.
There's a local county government office that periodically asks our business to bid on services for them. Whenever they put a new project out for bid, I seem to get these D&B calls, so my guess is that out of all of my clients, these are the only ones who use them. I've worked in other lines of business though where D&B was used all the time. If you need them, you already know.
