RS does not file lawsuits. Tax disputes are civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and all contacts are initiated by US mail.
Had the same voicemail this morning with a computerized woman's voice I called the #206-973-3241 that it said to call and he asked for my husband and wouldn't tell me anything so I woke my husband up and when he got on the phone the guy hung up! It upset me so I googled it and it was a scam
Just listened to a message left by these jerks. It was an automated message that said that they had been trying to reach me and that this was their final call before they file a lawsuit against me, although they never mentioned my name. They claimed to be from the IRS. The call came from 208 653-2022 and it said to call 206-973-3241 about the case. Obviously a scam. Don't fall for it. It's so sad that these people would rather steal money from hard working every day folks rather than to earn an honorable living!
That's odd... Did the IRS move its operations base offshore to avoid taxes?
Area code 721 is actually a country code for Saint Martin, an island in the eastern Caribbean, part of which is under the sovereignty of France and part of which is under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The IRS isn't going to be calling you from there!
Most likely, the incoming caller ID (i.e., in your direction -- the one you read off the phone) is being spoofed, because different numbers are shown in different posts. They all verbally direct you to call the "closer" for the scam and funnel you to a number where you can (currently) reach him. And you don't have to live or reside in the US to get a cheap and disposable US VoIP number in any area code.
By the way, the scammers are so dumb, they picked a Seattle, Washington number to close the scam rather than a Washington, D.C. number. Of course, they don't know or understand that one is the capitol of the United States and the other is the capitol of the state of Washington.
There is no 282 area code or country code in the North American Numbering Plan assigned in the United States, Canada, or any other country or territory that follows that plan. It's just a spoofed number that feeds you into their "closer" by telling you to dial the number 206-973-3241.
If you answer the original call, you will be able to converse with a scammer, but if you try to call him back on the fake number appearing on your caller ID, you won't be able to do so.
