The number could be from anywhere in the world! Yes, the 'computer Tech' guys really try hard to speak with an American accent and use a typical 'American' name. I've been called numerous times over the years and had played my own games with 'Alex'...who got very mad when I told him I would not turn my computer over to him. I hung up when the swearing started. He called me back....twice. Last time I said I'd called the FBI.or FTC. He hung up. Two week after that, "Alex" called again. I reminded that I'd called the FBI, all my calls are now recorded. It's been almost a year. And so the scams start again with a new batch of idiots
Received 2 calls from this number within 10 minutes. I realized it was a scam right off the bat---went along with the jerk who could barely speak English. They asked to call me back and then I spoke with someone who was a little easier to understand. Here is what they wanted me to do: I told them that I had a certain browser (made it up) and then they asked me to go to www.mypchelp.me That's as far as I got because I acted as if I couldn't understand him further and he put me on hold. Listen-----SCAMMERS------get a REAL JOB and/or go to HELL for trying to rip people off, losers. Unacceptable------off to the FBI and any other site I can report this to immediately.
Even though I told him to get off my phone, he kept talking asking if I was sure and finally I hung up, after telling him what he could do and not to call me again.
Called about 2 hours ago; the 347 area is a dead giveaway for scammers. I tried the pick up/hang up quickly routine. See if it does any good but not optimistic.
347 area code is just NY-but what really is obvious is the 043 exchange-the phone number is fake/spoofed. In North America, area codes and telephone exchanges do not start with a 0 or 1.
The quick pick up/hang up really does not work-Consider getting a call blocking device (or app for your cell phone)-they're available online and start around $45. http://800notes.com/nb/search?q=call+blockers
