@ lee, I got a call like that stating they were calling medicare aged people and wanted to verify my information. I said I was old but not that dumb, bye
My story is the same as everybody else: Heavily accented lady first asked for my dad "CHAR-les" and said she's from the national medical office. They had the address correct but couldn't answer "WHOSE national medical office?" Just deflected that with, "Yah, all seniors are going to get new medical card." And finally, she asks the question to verify you are the recipient, "Could you please give us the bank information where you receive Social Security payments?" "No, I will not." She was still talking while I hung up the phone.
And you just know, if the social security administration or medicare needs to contact you, they'll send a letter. If they do phone, the caller ID will say something other than "New York."
JH above said it best: "These are the lowest scum of the earth, that would try to take advantage of elderly people who are trusting!"
My elderly mother received a call from this number very recently while she was home alone and I later verified this number from her caller ID. She told me it sounded so official so she provided her bank routing number after they had other clearly identifiable information. We changed her bank account information the next day and put her on the no call list. I would love to find out who these scumbags are. Thank you everyone who has posted here. Mom now knows what NOT to do when one of these crap people call her. Please take care of your loved ones who may be vulnerable.
