@ lee, I got a call like that stating they were calling medicare aged people and wanted to verify my information. I said I was old but not that dumb, bye
I received a call telling me that I would be receiving a new Medicare card and wanted to verify my address, they read the address to me, which was correct. I asked who was calling and the line went dead. I tried to call back, the number just continued to ring....no answer.
Received a call 2:43 P.M. 11/29/2011 a male forign voice spoke telling me he was sending me a new medical card. He said everyone in US would be receiveing one. I told him i already have a medical card and I ask what company he was with he hung up. It's a trap.
I am 83. Someone has been calling from this number and today out of curiosity answered. "National Medical". A man with a foreign accent talked about sending me a new "medical card" and to "verify" he asked me if I was such and such and lived at such address. He obviously already had my phone number. Then he wanted to know my bank where I get my social security deposited and I lied and gave him another well known bank in the US. Then he asked me to get my check book and he read me some numbers and asked me if he was right and I lied and told him yes (router number, most likely for the bank I mentioned) and then he wanted to know the numbers following that which would be my account numbers. At that point I asked him which country he was calling from and he said "Brooklyn". I told him he was a fraud and I was going to report him to the police, he of course said he was not a fraud and I hung up on him.
The moment I heard the foreign accent I knew he was a fraud but I wanted to know how far he would go with his scheme.
I googled the number he called from and it brought me to this page.
Today a Women called from this number and told my 81 yr mom that she need to get a new medicare card and she wanted to verify her bank account routing number and account number, my mom did not give it to her but then 5 minutes later a man called and thought my moms phone number was the number to medicare the scammers gave him that number to call if he had any questions about the medicare card, so apparently they are giving out my moms number saying it was medicare, She spoke with the gentleman on the phone and he did give his banking information. My mom called the police and filed a report.
