On July 26, 2012, I got a call from this number. It registered on my caller ID as "Financial Ctr." I did not answer the phone. On today's date, August 15, 2012, I received another call from "Financial Ctr." except this time the number was 503-457-1407. I answered this call. The recording said that this is my final courtesy call to lower my credit card rate to 6%; all I need is $3,000 in credit card debt and one card in good standing. It also said they have tried to contact me several times and that this is my final call for my yearly credit card review.
The automated recording did not give a key to press to be removed from their list; It said "Press 1 if you are interested in lowering your credit card debt..." So I pressed 1 and got a woman who said "So i understand you are interested in lowering your credit card payments?" I said, "No, but I understand I want to be removed from your call list." Before I could finish my sentence, she hung up on me!
If you get a call from "Financial Ctr" on your caller ID, DO NOT ANSWER!
I have done this several times already and every time they hang up on me. How am I to get off this list!???
My favorite way to deal with the scammers is to pick up the phone, and quietly stay on the line. Just remain silent (cover the mouthpiece) and let THEM do the "Hello?" "Hello?" routine. Then hang up at your convenience. A little passive-aggressive, but I like it.
If the passive-aggressive route isn't to your liking, stay silent, let them do the "Hello?" "Hello?" a few times, then insert your favorite obscenity or police whistle.
Good post rox. I feel bad for the people who fall for this. Thank goodness there are many of us who know this as well as many other calls are scams. For people who say they are on the Do Not Call list, remember, criminals don't pay attention to any lists. It won't matter.
These maggots called my home phone with the name of Financial Center shown. I just added it to my blocked numbers list.
When you call it back, you'll be prompted with an option to have them quit calling you. Don't fall for it! That's how they know that the number is good and they will use it again, and sell it to other maggots.
