This guy is still around (maybe 2 of them). Got a call Friday 4/6/12 from (what he said) was Windows Technical Support then changed it later to Windows Technical support "partner". Same old stuff - computer infected with viruses. "could have infected all 3 computers that were turned on" etc., gave 2 phone numbers if I needed to call back: 1-408-786-5612 and Toll free @855-730-3380. When I called back, no answer, but did have a returned call from the ...5612 to see if I had called with trouble on my computer.
My son frowned on my gullibility (yes, I did know better, was taken off guard) and suggested I "wipe" my computer. I chose to do a Recovery to an earlier date - hope I don't regret it.
Yup ... that's the guy: "A mysterious call about a virus on my operating system. Distinct Indian accent."
He claims he is from Microsoft Repair Services, that they get error messages from my computer, and that to repair them I have to turn off my virus protection. When asked for his phone number he replied: 4087 8656 12. I asked where he was located and he hung up.
Same thing here in Canada, he in his thick accent gave me this number to call back , stated he was from windows support, getting virus reports from our machine
Obviously this fellow is still on the job. I have received numerous calls from someone with an East Indian accent claiming to be a Microsoft Security rep. Sounds the same as someone calling from "Computer Security Technology". I just hang up on the latter, but today I wanted to find out why this so-called Microsoft guy keeps calling. He took me through the computer to the Windows Application Errors log where, sure enough, there were lots of errors which he said were viruses and trojans infecting the computer. He then wanted me to connect to the Internet - unlikely that would happen. No doubt the next step would be to get a credit card number under some guise of getting computer cleansing and some sure fire protection.
His answers to my questions were: Ryan Rogers (yeah right with that accent) from Delaware with a 103 country code. He needs to do a bit more research. In the background was a lot more chatter along the same lines. He must have friends doing the same scam.
Received the same type of call - same name - from 'Windows Group'. Took me through Computer Management/System Tools, Event Viewer/Application. I left the call. And now my telephone line is off . . . .
Aug 10 the most scary call yes, I was trusting in was windows and it guide me throughout the same, how can we report this guy? did anyone got their computers hack?
