This guy is still around (maybe 2 of them). Got a call Friday 4/6/12 from (what he said) was Windows Technical Support then changed it later to Windows Technical support "partner". Same old stuff - computer infected with viruses. "could have infected all 3 computers that were turned on" etc., gave 2 phone numbers if I needed to call back: 1-408-786-5612 and Toll free @855-730-3380. When I called back, no answer, but did have a returned call from the ...5612 to see if I had called with trouble on my computer.
My son frowned on my gullibility (yes, I did know better, was taken off guard) and suggested I "wipe" my computer. I chose to do a Recovery to an earlier date - hope I don't regret it.
Call received Nov 28,2011....East Indian accent, identified errors with Windows that could not be deleted and asked for me to connect via Explorer. I refused. The telephone ID was "Unavailable Number-Private Caller". Claimed he was with Windows Support out of 4601 Grayview Court,Tampa, FL. 33616
Well, they've started working the UK. An Indian woman called me and went through the usual number as above. I had recently had trouble with Internet Explorer and had asked for support from Microsoft so I gave it some credence at first. The woman passed me to her supervisor 'David Jones' (I live in Wales!) but it was certainly a Delhi accent. He gave a London number. When I rang it - no reply. They kept ringing but I hung up. When I dialed (1471 in the UK) to find out who had rung - they did not have the number, which generally means the call comes from overseas.
Like everybody else here I got a call tonight with the same MO. The guy became increasingly rude when I questioned why Microsift would contact me in this manner when I was already using MS anti virus software in the first place...plus some other general logical questions related to what he was asking me to do.
I'm pretty sure he figured out I was Googling like carazy to find out about the supposed company profile, phone number etc...for sure enough, in the space of a minute of silence and me typing away he just hung up....what a jerk. I have been scammed once before (bogus product) but I have become totally weary of any similar communications since the last time. I just hope nobody falls for this crap in the future.
Be very careful this guy or guys have already got into your computer a friend of mine just had this happen to him the person on the otherside had total control of his computer.
1.Shut your computer off and disconnect from the internet
2.If possible format your computer and re install windows
Microsoft will never call a customer they sell the software and that is as far as they go it would be your internet provider calling you to tell you that you have virus on your computer
