This guy is still around (maybe 2 of them). Got a call Friday 4/6/12 from (what he said) was Windows Technical Support then changed it later to Windows Technical support "partner". Same old stuff - computer infected with viruses. "could have infected all 3 computers that were turned on" etc., gave 2 phone numbers if I needed to call back: 1-408-786-5612 and Toll free @855-730-3380. When I called back, no answer, but did have a returned call from the ...5612 to see if I had called with trouble on my computer.
My son frowned on my gullibility (yes, I did know better, was taken off guard) and suggested I "wipe" my computer. I chose to do a Recovery to an earlier date - hope I don't regret it.
Just had a call from this man trying to tell me my computer had been attacked by a virus.So badly broken I had him call back,this time I finally got his # 408-786-5612.When I called it back ,I was told I needed a name and something about a 3rd party, and he hung up on me.Operator said it was a SanJose,CA # . I guess I should be happy I didn't get billed for a call to India.. LOL.. Just another SCAM!
Just got the call from Danny Archer, (408) 786 5612. Same scam: said he was making service call, received a report from my computer. When I refused to do diagnostics, he suggested that I perform a sexual act upon his person. I laughed at him and hung up. He also called a friend of mine a few days ago who doesn't have a computer. He said he was calling from AK2L567 New Hall Street, Miama Florida. I doubt that he's a telemarketer. He's probably trying to get into computers for identity theft.
Funny - I used to work with an Alex Matthews, but good guy, no way he would be doing this :). Got the same call, but it was "Kevin" thick indian accent. Luckily, I have enough comp exp to see where he was going, and then hung up on him
I too just hung up with the same individual, heavy East Indian accent, from Windows Support. Asked that I go to windowsonlinelab.com and run a program on my computer. Told him I was suspicious of his call coming out of the blue, asked for his phone number. 408-786-5612. Delayed him by saying I had a task from work I had to finish, to call me back in an hour. Googled site and phone number, found this page. Hung up and immediately dialed the phone number he gave me. NO ANSWER. Glad my suspicious nature was triggered.
