I just got the same phone call claiming that I needed to call back to avoid any action being taken against me by the IRS. When I called back it sends you straight to voicemail.
We got the call on Labor Day. While my husband was on the phone with this phony "Julie Smith" with an Asian accent, I called a detective friend of mine who said it was a scam. I emailed him the details of the conversation and he sent it on the the FBI in Quantico. They are ALL over this!!
We are on a no call list but evidently that doesn't matter. This female who answered the phone had such a thick accent that I could not understand her. I told her to take my number off of her list.
Just got a call with the same general info as mentioned above, with "Contact your attorney of record and have him call us at 415-251-6983." There was not a reference to police arriving, but there was a warning to act immediately before action would be taken. This seemed to be a robo-call, identifying as Officer Julie (Smith?). She had no discernible foreign accent. I'm in San Jose.
This is Janet Smith calling from the IRS, we will soon be taking action. I called back and spoke to a June Smith with a very heavy Indian accent. She said her boss, Janet was named Janet Smit, not Smith...However, it sounded just like one of those commercials with the two talking computers. Clearly this is a scam. I called back and spoke to a man, same accent....didn't get his name, but he became very frightening and said a very obscene thing to me...which I will not write...I enrolled in LifeLock asap.
