My husband and I both got calls from a number that only said 201 on our cell pone caller ids. The automated message said our bank debit card had been deactivated and that we needed to call an 1800 number to reactivated it. We both got the call about one and half hours apart. The message said a company name that was unfamiliar to both of us.
received an automated message at about 5:00 pm on 7/18/08 from caller id "729". Said my RTN Credit Union card was deactivated and I should call the security department at this number to reactivate. I have no account with this credit union. Obviously some kind of scam.
Just got the call from the same number. They said to call back. I did. It said press 1 to activate card, then asked to enter the card #. I hung up. damnfraudspammers. Do not do this! It sounded fake.
Got an automated call purporting to be from my local credit union.
When you call back you get an automated relpy asking you to enter your
16 digit account number. This scam message seems to be tailored to locality.
I work for a credit union and we have had several members come in stating that they have received this call. DO NOT ANSWER OR CALL BACK. If you do or have done so please report to you financial institution immediately to have your card/account froze and order a new card. Please let others know what is happening...thank you!
