My husband and I both got calls from a number that only said 201 on our cell pone caller ids. The automated message said our bank debit card had been deactivated and that we needed to call an 1800 number to reactivated it. We both got the call about one and half hours apart. The message said a company name that was unfamiliar to both of us.
I got the call on my cell phone on 7/19/2008 at 8:02pm, from caller ID #795. It stated that my credit card from ATL Federal was being suspended and I should call 515-414-2182. I tried to google this number and saw reports of similiar fishy calls.
Received a call informing me that my Visa card has been deactivated and to call the (inaudible)security departmeht. I checked the web uncover the source of this telephone number to no avail. This is a telephone scam. DO NOT RETURN CALL. Check with your financial institution to ensure that your accounts have not been breached.
Received call at 7:00am Sunday morning. Said they were from my credit union and to call the 515 number because my card had been inactivated. I have a number of cards from the credit union and figured it was another scam.
Call was received at about 8am on a Sunday!!! morning (7-20-08). Call is designed to sound like a computer generated number sequence being left. Said first card had been deactivated, then that account had been deactivated. Since our credit union notifies us through newsletters and it's web site that they do not contact through email or phone, we knew it was a phishing expedition so I decided to search the net for the phone number. Found this web site and am doing a post. Thx.
