This is a phishing scam. Got a call and VM this morning from this number. The voicemail did a good job of making it sound like a legitimate call from American Express, with a reference number and extension. I called the actual American Express and they confirmed that this is not one of their numbers. Do not give any information to this number.
Fraudulant phone call: There was a message from “American Express” saying I should return the call asap. They apologized for any inconvenience that it might cause me but I needed to call if they were to continue doing business with me. Then they gave me this number to call: 1.800 494-0128 and a case reference #. The recording gave their working hours as Mon - Fri,7am to 8pm MTS, or 9am to 6pm EST.
When I dialed that number, it rang once and then transferred to another number. That one picked up and said ‘the number you have dialed has a new national directory assistance service. Please dial 10 15 15 800. You will be charged $5.49 for this call.’
I called American Express directly and was told it was a fraudulent call and that they are open 24/7.
I got a call from that number as well and I, too, was connected to my bank to verify my address and account number. I followed up by calling American Express after the call; they CONFIRMED that the call did indeed come from their Salt Lake City office. I hope that's helpful.
a call came from this (801-945-5000) number and said its verification of application for American Express credit card, i had applied for the card few days back over net, so when they asked my address and last 4 digits of SSN i provided it but then they wanted my bank account number for my address verification, i did n't give it , then they said they will send a postal mail and i can return with a utility bill copy as address verification, i find it a bit funny , they could have instead send me a mail and then asked me to call the amex bank number to verify or so
Got a call from 801-945-5000. I didn't answer as it called my cell phone. After reading replies here, I need to say that I have NOT applied with american express and have not applied and have no credit cards with them. There is no reason for them to call me.
