This is a phishing scam. Got a call and VM this morning from this number. The voicemail did a good job of making it sound like a legitimate call from American Express, with a reference number and extension. I called the actual American Express and they confirmed that this is not one of their numbers. Do not give any information to this number.
I received a call yesterday from an Arizona number 602-945-6484 and then another today from Utah 801-945-5000. Arizona caller was a woman with thick accent said a man was requesting an account in my name and asked me to call to verify.I did not call back but today received a call from a man in Utah who said a man was requesting an account in my name(same mans name) with a different number and different hours of operation. I called American Express's customer service line and she said there is an AMEX in AZ but not UT that she knew of. She asked for my phone number and name and address. I only gave her my number and she cleared any accounts pending under that phone number...she said that person may have transposed numbers.
I am waiting to see if i receive another call...But ultimately it seemed suspicious to me. Amex CSR wasn't really much help...
I work for a credit union. No institution should ask for information they already have. A lot of people are defrauded this way, it's an identity theft tactic. Unless you initiate the call, never give out any personal information over the phone!
I didn't apply for an amx card and they called me. If they need 2 verify something I'll call the # on the back of my card and have them transfer me 2 the right place. I don't think they should even have ur personal banking info
