A legitimate debt collection company would not hang up on you for requesting an address. There's no such thing as a restraining order involving a debt. It is against the law to threaten you, as this employee did. Verify that you really have an unpaid debt by contacting Bank of America AND checking your credit reports from the three credit reporting companies (in case there's erroneous info on them that needs to be corrected). Also, check the statute of limitations for debts in your state; you're already more than 7 years past the alleged unpaid debt. It's possible that your state has laws to get a debt that old expunged from your records -- and that's assuming you really did owe it in the first place. If, indeed, the claims about a 2003 debt are false, or if they're trying to coerce you into paying a debt that's past the statute of limitations for your state, it's in your best interests to file a report against Litigation Support Services with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
I got the same call yesterday about my daughter. Same thing....restraining order.....special investigator....and YES Mr. William Ward! This is a cleaver debt collector scam. The terms they are using are illegal. I intend to file a report. They will have to pay a fine for the misuse of pretending to be within the Judicial system.
I also received a call from Amy Austin she said the same things to me and I refused to pay 2 weeks later I was served so now my checks are getting garnished. Only if she would of been more understanding. All she wanted to do was talk she never once listened she offered me a settlement offer that i couldn't afford when i told her i had no money she told me she don't dispute things good luck in court.
I got the phone call from a "Helen Davis". When I called back I talked with a william Ward. The same line, take me to court, a judgement against me the whole nine yards. Is this a scam or what. I can't find anything on the internet.
Yeah, this is a scam. They called me and told me all of the same bull. When I asked for a contact number or person for my lawyer, they hung up the phone on me. I called the county clerk, no lawsuit had been filed against me. They were completely full of [***], trying to scare people. I plan on filing a report with the state att. office.
