man called 1-22-06, said "Hi Grandma"  I said "hi, how are you".  He said he was in NY for a funeral, got in an accident and broke his nose which is why he sounded funny.  I asked if he called AAA, he said no, he needs money.  I said sorry, my grandson doesn't have an accent and hung up on him.

Thanks for the info here. I received a call from this number just a little while ago. The phone only rang 3 times that I could hear then quit. The caller ID said XXXXXXNY. I see this scam is making the rounds again. I like to check here for remarks.

My mom just called, saying she got a call from this number, saying "it's your oldest grandson, and I'm in Iowa."  I found this page and see that it's a scam, but the jerk had the nerve to keep saying, "grandma, I don't understand why you don't recognize my voice!"  The caller must be routing the original call through this number from another number, because I tried to call back to give the guy a piece of my mind for freaking out my mom, and it says the number is not in service.

"Grandpa"
I received a call from this number a couple days ago. I didn't answer it because I didn't recognize it. I ended up with a voice message 2 minutes long, where the caller wasn't speaking, but I could hear background noise, probably other "operators". Anyway, since finding out about this number on this site, I was wishing I'd actually answered the call, so as to have some fun. Well today, my wish was granted as I got a call back from my "granddaughter" telling me she had been in a car accident in Georgia. She got stitches in her mouth, which explained why she didn't sound like my granddaughter (never mind that I don't have a granddaughter, but I was happy to play along). Anyway, she needed my help because she got a DUI. I asked if she called her mother, but she was too embarrassed to do that. She insisted that I take her case number (#017B23) and to wait by the phone for a call from the public defender's office by a lawyer named Max Morgan. She said she loved me and hung up.

Two minutes later, Max Morgan called me from a private number. He asked for me by name (so they're working off some legitimate lists they got somewhere) and when I confirmed, he started to launch into his act. Unfortunately, here's where I screwed up. I asked for his phone number, which he promptly gave me (405-445-0305), but then I asked him to tell me which county he was calling from. He said, "Atlanta" (he was so close, the area code there is actually 404 and Atlanta is actually in Fulton County), but then ironically, he became really suspicious of me and demanded my badge number because I sounded like a cop. I said I wasn't (I'm really not) but he'd had enough and hung up.

It's too bad because I was just starting to enjoy myself. If you get a call from this number and have the time, do play along, but be sure play dumb the whole time and give out no additional information (remember at the very least, they already had my name and number). By keeping scammers on the line as long as you can, you're keeping them away from someone else, maybe even someone else more gullible than you who might fall for this trick.
