Got a call from same number this morning. There are two people involved - First caller said his name is John Cruz and told me I have police complaint and legal affidavit against me. Asked me to call back once his supervisor is there. Later his "so-called" supervisor called by name David Marshall and said the same thing. Asked me to settle the matter quick. Was talking about the state tax evasion. The moment I said my CPA will contact you, he said we cannot help you and hung up. I called my local police department and let the officer know about this. He said these guys must be pranksters - ignore them or tell them that you have asked the state/local police to get involved - and they should back out.
I had a similar situation, got phone call from 732-964-0148 - the person said his name was officer from state of NJ investigation office and he has arrest warrants/legal affidavit pending against me and that the call was being recorded with 3 attorneys listening in. I let him talk and spell out the pending crimes - banking fraud and state tax evasion. I knew I had no such issue - he went on tell me that since I am a nice person with no prior history, I can help my self and take care of these stuff today without arrest warrants going out. Pl. be careful - my guess is they want someone to fall for this and make a payment and give up banking info.
I also got the same call...and that sure made me nervous ; he (with a thick Indian accent) used the same language as others claim on this website, such as 2 federal marshalls will come to my door and arrest me as I haven't paid taxes owed to the IRS and unless I pay them $ 19xx and settle it right then & there, law enforcement will arrest me in 30 mins. They said they called my home numerous times & sent out letters with warnings (which they never did) and wanted me to settle the payment right away. I asked them if they had anything in writing which said that a warrant was issued, or that I owed money...he tried ducking the question saying I'll be arrested in 30 mins etc. I told him I have to put you on hold and by the time I went back he was gone. Then I discovered this website. The caller ID indicated 732-964-0148 ; and they had called my home earlier with a different call back number 732-703-9219 ; both when google searched reveal the same B.S.
I also just got this phone call from the same number and I live in CA! I was surprised they knew how to pronounce my last name, but it figures they were calling from India (my name is Indian origin). I think this is scary for most people to get this call and the company who is doing the Voice Over IP for them,, should stop putting out their calls. Imagine if someone gets physically sick after hearing this - they should be sued for emotional distress.
