It is Bank of America. The voicemail I received said my account had been compromised and to call the number on the back of my card. They did not leave a number to call. I did and was told yes, it was true. My account had been compromised and they had already mailed a new card to me.
Got a call with a voice message. The message was the same that others are reporting on this page. The message told me to call 1-866-518-1695. I was pretty suspicious at this point since I have not made recent changes to my account info with Bank of America. I called the number anyway to see what would happen. A very professional sounding woman named "Donna" answered, pretending to be BOA a customer service person. She asked for my bank account number. DO NOT GIVE YOUR account number to them. At this point I told "Donna" that I wouldn't do give the number to her. She sensed my hesitation and said that if I wanted I could give her my social security number to "access my account BLAH BLAH..." DO NOT GIVE YOUR social security number to them. Again sensing my hesitation she said if I felt more comfortable I could call the number on the back of my credit card and proceed that way instead (I think she did this just to try to gain my trust).
This number NOT Bank of America. It is likely a phishing scam for account numbers and social security numbers.
This is a legit number from Bank of America. Just yesterday, I received a new debit card in the mail, provided in the event that my account information was included in a recent data breach. The call from this number (415-229-2984) was a recording stating that my new card should arrive shortly, my old card would be canceled, and to activate the new one using the phone number on the card. If this is all a scam, it's a pretty elaborate one!
Received voice message. identifying themselves as BOA... voice mail stated "You debit card may have been compromised at a store or service provider. Therefore, my current debit card was being deactivated. A new debit card was in mail. Please follow instructions to activate new card when it arrives!" BOA states this is a scam. No card as yet.
I just got this call on my cell phone and I don't have an account with BOA. I did call BOA from the number on the webstie and after jumping through hoops to get to talk to someone because I didn't have an account number they said I was ok and didn't have any accounts in my name.
I received two calls from this number this morning in quick succession. The first left no message, but the second call did leave a message saying it was from Bank of America. They wanted to confirm that I had made changes to my account information. This is accurate -- I did change the address on my credit card account just yesterday. The message gave me a number to call back, but only if I had any further questions or if I thought I had received the message in error.
I don't know why other people have said this was a scam. Maybe there is/was a ghosting issue with the phone number, so it is probably wise to be careful and still not give out information over the phone. That said, it appears (at least) to also be used for legitimate BofA purposes.
