This is a phishing scam. Got a call and VM this morning from this number. The voicemail did a good job of making it sound like a legitimate call from American Express, with a reference number and extension. I called the actual American Express and they confirmed that this is not one of their numbers. Do not give any information to this number.
I missed the call, but then call it right back as they never leave a message and no one could tell me why they were calling. Seems suspicious.
I don't doubt that the number is AMEX, I'm just not confident the people who are showing it as their caller ID when making outbound calls are really AMEX.
I just got a vm from this number about an Amex gift card order I made in June last year. I googled the number and wound up here. The caller left a lot of details on my vm, so I'm leaning more torward it being legit, but still am not convinced due to the large number of complaints here. I think I'll probably wait and see if they call again.
America express called to verify I was opening a new acct. this was not true. Someone trying to open one in my name. Turns out this set the ball rolling. Through investigating I found someone was charging to a prepaid acct. I had. Maybe trying to open an American exp. back fired on them.
Now they will not be able to make more charges to me(I hope). Very depressing.
This was American Express Target Redcard calling to inform me that my issue logging into my account has been resolved. She knew my name but did not ask any personal information. This was a legitimate call since I called them last week with an issue on my account.
