This is a phishing scam. Got a call and VM this morning from this number. The voicemail did a good job of making it sound like a legitimate call from American Express, with a reference number and extension. I called the actual American Express and they confirmed that this is not one of their numbers. Do not give any information to this number.
Not a American express number I just called American Express because I got a call from this number saying it was from American express about a application . Not a American Express number .
I got a call from 801-945-5000 that I didn't answer. My wife and son each got the same call on their phones with them trying to get in touch with me. An American accent woman left a message saying they worked for american express in the new accounts dept. and to call them back regarding a request for a new account in my name. I call the number the next day they provided in the voice mail, 801-945-2330, and tell them it is fraudulent not to open the account, I've made no request. She thanked me for calling and said that they had been trying to talk with me to make sure before processing to open the account since I had been approved but needed final verification. Then she said not to worry that the credit inquiry they performed would not harm my credit score a single point but I should contact credit bureaus to put a fraud alert. She volunteered to handle it for me and asked for my birth date. This stunk to me and I said no thanks I can do it and we parted. Then I look up amex 1-800-528-4800 and I call them. I spoke to the real amex which were Indian accented people and they had no record of any of this, that they have not contacted me, and that indeed scammers are doing things like this.
So consider this. For all the posts on here that are saying not to worry or that they had recently made transactions with amex and getting the call from this number asking for information etc. is normal, ask yourself this. What brought them to this board to post? They go to 800notes, a message board that is questioning the legitimacy of the calls which they are claiming to be normal. Does that make sense to you? Again, they get a call from this number and by their account all goes well for them with their business with amex and then get the urge to find this board and profess the legitimacy and nothing to worry about? Yeah right, that is a normal thing to do...
They wanted to confirm some information before making banking transactions from Amex Personal Savings account I have.
They definitely knew all the important details about the transaction, so I'm quite certain it is American Express.
